GREATER HARLEM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HISTORYThe Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce (GHCC) has for over 100 years played a prominent role in the commercial and economic revitalization of Harlem while, at the same time, actively supporting the interests of small businesses. Through the creation of HARLEM DAY and later HARLEM WEEK, GHCC has been credited by City, State and Federal officials, as well as by New York State’s “I Love New York” and NYC & Company, in playing a lead role in making HARLEM the popular tourism destination it is today. Last year, HARLEM WEEK attracted in excess of three and a half million people to its more than four week festival including outdoor concerts, sporting events, museums, parks, economic & educational development and business forums, carnivals, gospel festivals, nightclubs and restaurants special events.
The HARLEM WEEK festival, and many other year round activities of GHCC, concentrates on the growth and development of small businesses, local boutiques, restaurants, professional service providers, and vendors by providing a much needed economic stimulus to these businesses and, through the aforementioned tourism aspect, helping these businesses to establish a much larger customer base than they could possibly attract alone.
On the basis of its extensive history and experience in working with the tourism organizations of the City and State of New York and beyond, GHCC is and able to fully and successfully engage in the delivery of programs and initiatives in support of small businesses and professional services providers.
